Estelle’s New Paint
Estelle had a makeover and she is ready for the world to see. Eveline and the crew at Century Aircraft Paint really went above and beyond on this paint job. I can not believe the artistry that went into the layup of paint. First the airplane was stripped down to bare metal, exposing any imperfections, which were promptly fixed. Next primer was applied to the entire airplane to protect all of the metal surfaces. Then the colors started to be applied, first silver and dark silver down the sides and on the leading edge of the wings (to make a base for the candy blue). Then orange and finally the candy blue over the silver and dark silver. To top it all off, four gallons of clear was sprayed over everything to protect the paint for years to come. It was a great process to be part of, it really takes artists to make this happen. Nothing was created on a computer, we worked on the shape, size and location of the stripes and then they were taped on by hand. I tried for 30 minutes to make one symmetrical radius with the masking tape with no success. One employee came over and put that radius down in two attempts and it was perfect. I can’t say enough for the work they did. The pictures don’t do her justice, please find her at Oshkosh and if you ask nicely we might have a t-shirt for you. Century Aircraft Paint with Eveline at the helm really took care of Estelle’s needs. It was a process that had several challenging aspects and Eveline and her crew did everything necessary to make it happen. Thank you very much Eveline and everyone at Century Aircraft Paint for your amazing work, we are very proud to show off the results.
