Reno Air Races
The Reno Air Races are a truly unique event. It almost seems that I get to watch something from the past, like barnstorming. Imagine 8 airplanes flying 50 feet above the ground, 1500 feet in front of you, in a 70-90 degree bank turn, flying up to 500 miles per hour. There is nowhere else on earth that this happens. Lots of people see air shows around the country but there is only one NASCAR style air race and that is the Reno Air Races. To add to the amazement of this event the airplanes being flown are some of the rarest WWII fighters on the planet. P51 Mustangs, Bearcats, Tigercats, Sea Furys, Corsairs, Wild Cats and more.
When you put together some of the best pilots around and these airplanes you are guaranteed an amazing show.
I have been going to the Reno Air Races for the last 6 years and after attending for the first time I was hooked. So hooked as a matter of fact that the next year I entered the races in the biplane class.
The Reno Air Races have been in Reno for the last 47 years, the only time the racers didn’t fly was during September 2001. If you like air shows, this is one you must see.
