World’s Coolest Weathervane – DC3

World’s Coolest Weathervane – DC3

On our trip to Anchorage Alaska to drop off a WWII Japanese Zero, we stopped in a town called Whitehorse in the Yukon Territory of Canada.  Because of weather and other circumstances, we were stuck in town for the night and decided we would walk around.  As we were leaving the airport property, we walked in front of the transport museum.  To our amazement we saw a DC3 sitting on a 15 foot tall pole. I thought, “Wow! That is a cool DC3”.  We felt a small breeze, and realized the entire DC3 had moved to face us.  We couldn’t believe it, this DC3 was a functional weathervane. It must be sitting on the best bearings available because it moved in the gentle breeze with smooth and fluid grace.  If you ever find yourself in Whitehorse, this is a must see.

  1. It was great being able to overnight in Whitehorse, we had a great time. The locals were so nice to us and the food at Klondike Rib and Salmon BBQ was amazing.
